Funeral services for 82-year-old Lily M. Geertsema of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon, February 19, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, Minnesota. The church is located at 1025 4th Avenue.
Visitation will be at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom, Minnesota, on Thursday, February 18, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 2280 6th Avenue. A second visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Lily M. Geertsema passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016, at Windom area Hospital in Windom.
Lily Mildred Geertsema was born on March 14, 1933 in Lakefield, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Herbert and Esther (Schuldt) Grussing. She was confirmed at the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. Lily received her education in the Lakefield and Brewster, Minnesota rural schools and graduated from Worthington in the Class of 1952.
In 1957, Lily was united in marriage to James Geertsema at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington. They made their home in Brewster, and were blessed with four children, Michael, Glenn, Larry and Steven. This marriage was later dissolved.
Through the years, Lily was a cook at Ridgewood in Worthington from 1979 until her retirement in 2006. After retirement, Lily continued to live in Brewster until becoming a resident of The Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake-The Village in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.
Lily was a longtime member of the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington. She had several enjoyments in life, including gardening, especially flowers; going to plays and musicals, the outdoors and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
Lily is survived by her four children, Michael Geertsema of Blaine, Minnesota, Glenn Geertsema (KyongSuk) of Rosamond, California, Larry Geertsema (Britian) of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Steven Geertsema (Jennie) of Mountain Lake; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Myron Grussing (Clarabelle) of Rushmore, Minnesota and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
