Wolverine girls clipped at home by MCC

Lose conference contest by two

 

 

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine girls basketball squad was clipped by Murray County Central (MCC) by a two of points in a home Red Rock Conference contest. The Rebels topped the Wolverines 55 to 53.

It was a close contest from start-to-finish, with MLA holding onto a one-point lead at halftime, 22 to 21. At the close of the second half, the Wolverines just missed a game-winning shot from behind the arc, the ball hitting the rim.

Leading the MLA scorers were junior Taylor Naas and senior Jenneel Rodney, each tallying double digits with 11 points. Rodney nabbed 10 boards to claim at double-double on the night.

Top scorers for the Rebels were Montana Beckmann with 12, Brianna Schmitz with 11, and Riley Schmitz with 10. Rachel Van Iperen pulled down 10 rebounds, had six steals and three assists for MCC.

The girls play at home again tonight (Friday, January 16) in the first half of a girls/boys doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota Christian of Edgerton in a Coaches vs Cancer night. Tip-off for is set for 6 p.m., followed by the boys game.
