Funeral services for 94-year-old Doris Wiens of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon, October 2, 2015, at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. The church is located at 906 Prospect Avenue.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom, located at 2280 6th Avenue. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral service from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Doris Wiens passed away on Tuesday morning, September 29, 2015 at the Sogge Good Samaritan Society Center in Windom.
Doris Ardith Wiens was born on January 24, 1921 in LaSalle, Minnesota, the daughter of Axel and Anna (Berggren) Thulien.
On March 13, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Jacob Wiens in Hanska, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with six children, Gary, LeeAnn, Glen, Richard, JoAnne and Michael.
After their marriage, Doris and Jacob farmed in Dale and Carson Townships near Delft, Minnesota for many years. Doris kept busy as a wife, mother and grandmother.
Jacob passed away on August 5, 1975. After his death, Doris continued to live on the farm north of Windom until moving to the Sogge Good Samaritan Society Center in Windom in June 2001.
Doris was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. She had many enjoyments in life including crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, cooking and baking, riding in the car taking day trips, listening to music, watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and most of all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, LeeAnn (Dale) Erickson of Sherburn, Minnesota, Glen (Donna) Wiens of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, Richard (Becky) Wiens of Windom, JoAnne (Rudy) Ziegler of Tripp, South Dakota and Michael (Peggy) Wiens of Windom; daughter-in-law, Gerlinde Thulien of Windom; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Dorothy) Thulien of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene (Duane) Harris of Courtland, Minnesota; three sisters-in-law, Esther Wiens of Oregon, Irene Menken of Windom and Gloria Thulien of St. James, Minnesota and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and Anna Thulien; husband, Jacob Wiens; son, Gary Thulien; brothers, Verne, Charles, Alden, Elwood, Richard and LeRoy Thulien and sisters, Viola Jensen, Grace Fast, Annette Thompson and Betty Thulien.
