Funeral services for 95-year-old Emma Norland of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, September 10, 2015, at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. The church is located at 906 Prospect Avenue.
Visitation will at the church the day of the funeral services from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom is handling the funeral arrangements.
Emma Norland passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015, at the Windom Area Hospital.
Emma A. Norland was born on May 21, 1920 in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, the daughter of Karl and Kathrina (Balzer) Rickert. She was baptized at the Mountain Lake Evangelical Lutheran Church on September 7, 1920 and confirmed on July 5, 1936. Emma received her education at Rural School District #80 East.
She grew up on a farm and later worked in various homes as housekeeper in the Windom, Wilder, Minnesota and Mountain Lake, Minnesota areas, as well as for small businesses in Windom.
On July 28, 1962, she married Neil Norland at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. They lived in Bingham Lake, Minnesota and Windom, moving to Hillside Manor in 1994.
Emma and Neil loved family gatherings, playing cards and gardening. Emma liked to cook and enjoyed bingo and listening to audio books after her vision failed.
Her husband, Neil, preceded her in death on September 30, 2008. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Walter, Henry, Fred and Carl Rickert and four sisters, Anna Hoppe, Minnie Olson, Amanda Rickert and Katie Rickert, all from the Mountain Lake and Windom areas.
Emma is survived by two siblings, sister, Esther Janzen of Mountain Lake and brother Hal (Harold) Rickert of Minneapolis, Minnesota and eight nieces and nephews
