MOUNTAIN LAKE PUBLIC Library is joining with other libraries across the country to celebrate National Library Week this week.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support – along with the changing role libraries have in communities All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.

Serving as Honorary Chair during this year’s National Library Week – April 12-18 – is best-selling author David Baldacci. Some of his titles include a number of books in a series – King & Camel, Camel Club, John Puller, Will Robie, Amos Decker, and others. Over 110 million copies of his books are in print worldwide. In addition, Baldacci is involved with several philanthropic organizations, including his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®, which fosters and promotes the development and expansion of literacy and educational programs.

Mountain Lake Public Library is taking part of the celebration, with this year’s theme, “Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library: Celebrate National Library Week.”

Today, libraries are than just warehouses for books. Through the services they provide, libraries are doing their part to close the digital divide and level the playing field by providing free access to information and technologies to all – regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, age, gender or socio-economic status.

According to Librarian Carol Lehman, this Wednesday, April 15; Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17, the Mountain Lake Public Library will be serving refreshments to patrons during regular library hours, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In addition, there will be drawings for door prizes.
