On Saturday, March 14, the group held its annual locally-made ethnic supper featuring varenikje – or verenike or vareniki (no matter how you spell it, it is a culinary treat of cottage cheese pockets topped with cream gravy). Also on the menu were sausage, moos, bread and applesauce. In addition, a bake sale was held. All told, the evening raised $5,107.51.

That amount is 1/3 of the group’s goal in raising $15,000 to support the efforts of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in Ukraine to provide food and medication for the displaced and vulnerable people of the country – plus the local food shelf.

Performing will be :

* House of Heinrich.

* Delft Christian Community.

* Nathan Janzen and Micah Siebert.

* Lynn Stoneking.

* Art Ellingson.

* Mountain Lake Gospel Singers.

* First Mennonite Church of Mountain Lake Mixed Choir (singing in Russian)

* Plus others.

Refreshments will follow the concert.

Ninety percent of the funds raised will help Christian organizations in Ukraine that are partnering with MCC to provide urgent humanitarian aid. Hundreds of thousands of people in Ukraine are being forced to flee their homes because of ongoing armed conflict.

Ten percent will go to the Mountain Lake Community Food Shelf – Loaves and Fishes.

MCC is a global, nonprofit organization that strives to share God’s love and compassion for all through relief, development and peace.
