Darlene Meier passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.

Darlene Avis Coulson Meier, the daughter of Archie and Della (Jenson) Coulson, was born on April 22, 1929 in Jeffers. She attended school in Jeffers for all grades except her junior year when she attended Central High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her parents moved to Minneapolis and worked and lived there for one year during World War II, then moved back to Jeffers. Darlene graduated from Jeffers High School in 1947.

On November 21, 1947, Darlene was united in marriage to Albert J. Meier. To this union, two daughters and three sons were born. They farmed in the Jeffers area and then moved to Jeffers in 1986. After Albert’s death, Darlene continued to live in her home in Jeffers until recent months, when a fall meant hospitalization and a move to the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom for care.

Darlene accepted Jesus as her Savior while in the Windom Hospital on December 26, 1956. She later became a member of the Jeffers Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed helping in Bible camps and Bible School. She enjoyed children very much. She also enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening and art.

Darlene was often known by her smile and enjoyed visiting with others, including strangers, often sharing the good news “that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” and be assured of a home in heaven.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Albert Meier; her parents, Archie and Della Coulson; her brothers, Robert (Bob) Coulson, Archie Jr. (Duke) Coulson and Jack Coulson and also by a granddaughter, Jeanette Marie Meier.

Darlene is survived by her children, Karen (Norman) Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia, Allen Meier of Jeffers, Kenneth (Charlotte) Meier of Delft, Michael Meier of Butterfield and Janine (Scott) Balthazor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Lonnie, Elno and Jimmy Coulson and sisters, Connie Sutherland and JoAnn Keech.
