Lillie Ardell Brodin was born on September 22, 1932, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of the late J. Victor and Bernice Pearl (Huber) Olson. She received her education from Mountain Lake Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1950. Lillie was baptized in Mountain Lake and later confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake.

On June 5, 1951, Lillie was united in marriage to Vernon “Vern” Brodin at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. After marriage, they lived in Dothan, Alabama until Vern was sent overseas with the United States Army. When he was honorably discharged from military service, they took over the family farm in Delafield Township, Jackson County, Minnesota.

Through the years, Lillie was a secretary for IDS, church secretary at Delafield Lutheran Church for 35 years, a clerk at the Old Country Store in rural Windom and helped Vern farm. In 1989, Lillie and Vern began to go to Dana’s Trailer Ranch in Apache Junction, Arizona for several months each winter, where they loved their pinochle.

Vern died on May 31, 2001. After his death, Lillie continued living on the farm and with family until her health began to decline and she moved to care facilities in Mountain Lake, Spencer, Iowa and then to the Jackson Good Samaritan Society in Jackson.

Lillie was a longtime member of the Delafield Lutheran Church in rural Windom until its closing. She was their church secretary for 35 years, a Sunday School teacher, a Junior Lutheran Leader, a member of Luther League and a member of the Ladies Aid. Lillie then became a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. She was also a Delafield Digger 4-H leader, member of the snowmobile club, CB Club and card club. Lillie enjoyed hosting guests at their place on Fish Lake for more than 50 years and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Lillie’s grateful family includes her two children, Cheryl (Kevin) Ahern of Spencer and Sue (the late Craig) Brodin of Jackson; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Boldt of Mountain Lake; sisters-in-law, Sharon Hoffman of Lindsborg, Kansas and Lorraine Olson of Mankato and many nieces and nephews.
