It’s Cottonwood County Fair time again

2017 edition runs August 15 through 19

It is Cottonwood County Fair time again, and the 2017 edition of events will run from Tuesday, August 15 through Saturday, August 19, at the fairgrounds in Windom.

The Cottonwood County Fair has been an annual tradition since 1883. It is a celebration that showcases all that the county has to offer. There are plenty of things to do and see for young and old alike, such as children’s activities, entertainment, food and merchandise vendors, livestock and agriculture competitions, midway rides and much, much more.

Following is the daily schedule activities for the four days of the fair:

Tuesday, August 15

+ 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – 4-H General Judging, 4-H Exhibit Building.

+ 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Entries for Open Class Arts and Crafts Exhibits.

Wednesday, August 16

+ 8 a.m. – 4-H Horse Show, Windom Arena.

+ 9 a.m. to 12 noon – Entries for Open Class Exhibits.

+ 12:30 p.m. – Open Class judging in Horticulture, Crops and Mechanical, Vossen Building.

+ 5 p.m. – Commercial Exhibits open.

+ 6:30 p.m. – House Cat and Kitten Show, Oleson Pavilion.

+ 7 p.m. – FREE performance of Branch & Dean, country music singers, Windom Arena.

Thursday, August 17

+ 10 a.m. – Open Class Beef Show, Windom Arena.

+ 2:30 p.m. – FFA Sheep Show, Oleson Pavilion.

+ 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Carnival Discount Day. (Carnival is McDermott Family Fun Show, with 16-18 rides, 12-15 game booths and food stands. Pre-sale Carnival tickets available at Fulda Area Credit Union, Bank Midwest, Hy-Vee and the Fair Office during Fair Days.) Sponsored by POET Biorefining, Miller/Sellner, Country Pride Cooperative Services and Duerksen Electric.

+ 5:30 p.m. – Open Class Sheep Show, Oleson Pavilion.

+ 6 p.m. – Class Car Show, East of Windom Arena.

+ 7 p.m. – FREE performance of ventriloquist David Malmberg, Windom Arena

Friday, August 18

+ 8 a.m. – 4-H Swine Show, Oleson Pavilion.

+ 10:45 a.m. – 4-H Dairy Show, Windom Arena.

+ 12:30 p.m. – 4-H Rabbit Show, Rabbit & Poultry Barn.

+ 1:30 p.m. – FFA Goat Show, Oleson Pavilion.

+ 4:30 p.m. – 4-H Poultry Show, Rabbit & Poultry Barn.

+ 6 p.m. – 4-H Cat/Dog/Pet Show, Oleson Pavilion.

+ 7:30 p.m. – FREE performance of Ranch Working Rodeo, Windom Arena.

Saturday, August 19

+ 12:30 p.m. – Southwest Dog Show, Windom Arena.

 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Carnival Wrist Bands (includes all rides), $20. Drawing for a boys and a girls bike at 5 p.m. Must be present to win.

+ 1 p.m. – Ambassador Scavenger Hunt, General Exhibit Building.

+ 1:30 p.m. – Junior Columbia Sheep Show, Rabbit & Poultry Barn.

+ 3:30 p.m. – 4-H State Fair General Orientation, Oleson Pavilion.

+ 5:30 p.m. – Kids’ Pedal Tractor Pull, East of Windom Arena.

+ 6 p.m. – FREE Midwest Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pullers Association, Behind Windom Arena.

+ 7:30 p.m. – FINAL Talent Show, Windom Arena. Adult entrance, $6; ages 6-16, $4 and ages 4 and under, free.

+ 9:45 p.m. – 4-H Exhibit Buildings close.

+ 11 p.m. – All Buildings close.

Additional Wednesday through Saturday activities

+ Bingo – Wednesday and Thursday, 6 p.m. to close and Friday and Saturday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to close.
