Loren John Behrens was born on August 6, 1927 in Windom, the son of the late John A. and Elizabeth L. (Rossow) Behrens. He was baptized at an early age at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield, Minnesota and later confirmed in that same church on April 6, 1941. Loren received his education from a Delafield country school. At age 24, Loren enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Smith, Arkansas and served his country honorably until being discharged in 1955.

On August 14, 1954, Loren was united in marriage to Dora L. Behrens at Fort Smith, Arkansas. In 1956, they moved to Jeffers, Minnesota until 1965, when they moved back to the family farm south of Windom until the present time. Through the years, Loren farmed in Delafield Township along with raising livestock until retiring in 1992 after 40 years.

He was a longtime, dedicated member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom, where he was a church trustee, usher and a member of the church dartball team. He was also active in his community where he helped deliver Meals-on-Wheels for over 40 years, caretaker of the Delafield Township Cemetery for 42 years and a member of a bowling league. Loren loved playing cards and spending time with family and friends; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Loren’s health had recently begun to decline and he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.
