Kenneth Hanson

A Service of Remembrance for 90-year-old Kenneth Russell Hanson of rural Odin, Minnesota will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 3, 2017, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Donald V. Larson V.F.W. Post #9607 of Butterfield, Minnesota.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 2, 2017, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, Minnesota from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 71 2nd Avenue S. E. A second visitation will be at the church the day of the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Kenneth Hanson passed away on Thursday evening February 2, 2017 at Truman Senior Living in Truman, Minnesota, surrounded by family.

Kenneth Russell Hanson was born on July, 30, 1926, on the farm in rural Odin, the son of Howard and Julia (Tieg) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin. Kenneth received his education in Odin and attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul, Minnesota, before returning home to farm.

Kenneth proudly served with the United States Army in Korea from 1946 through 1947.

He met his bride of 69 years, Dolores Dawson, at the Fox Lake Ballroom in Sherburn, Minnesota and they were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunnell, Minnesota on August 17, 1947.

They farmed near Odin and were blessed with six children. Besides farming, Kenneth also worked at Tony Downs Foods and Scherr-Tumico, Inc., both in St. James, Minnesota.

Kenneth was an active member of the Donald V. Larson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9607 of Butterfield, Minnesota. He proudly placed flags on the grave sites of veterans throughout the community on Memorial Day. He was a lifelong member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and served many years on the Cemetery Board.

Kenneth and Dolores enjoyed many winters in Arizona together. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed visiting friends. The passions in life were dancing, reading and fishing, and he also enjoyed travel and golf.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Dolores Hanson of Sherburn, Minnesota; his children, Cindy (Mark) Neiderman of San Diego, California, Charnelle (Darrell) Goring of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Bryan (Linda) Hanson of Buckeye, Arizona and Mark (Sharon) Hanson of Hendricks, Minnesota; grandchildren, Zach (Jill) Goring, Lucas (Sarah) Goring, Jesse Hanson, Garett Hanson, Ryan Hanson, Cole Hanson and Kaitlyn Hanson; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Ben, Logan and Britta Goring; brother-in-law, Al Bessessen, sister-in-laws, Betty Dawson and Alice (Richard) Flaherty; nieces, nephews and many other friends and relatives.

Preceding him in death were his  sons, Thomas Allen and Jeffery Lee; parents; father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Geneva Dawson; siblings, Harold (Ardis) Hanson, Alden (Arlene) Hanson, Lorraine Hanson, Thurman LaVerne (Delores) Hanson, Pearl (Richard) Priest, Hildor Mavis Bessessen and Geraldine (Wayne) Nelson; brother-in-law, Wally Dawson and other relatives.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
