Florence Ennis passed awy on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Brickstone Manor in Comfrey.

Florence Ennis was born to Charles and Anna (Pufahl) Schroeder on October 17, 1914. She grew up on the family farm in Germantown Township, Cottonwood County, where she also attended school. Florence loved learning, but her family’s finances prevented her from going on to high school in Jeffers. For the next four years, Florence worked very hard doing tasks for her neighbors. Finally, after those four years, her dream came true, she graduated from Jeffers High School. While attending high school, she played on the girls’ basketball team.

One day, a couple of young Irishmen with the last names of Ennis and Kelly came into her workplace and asked if she’d be interested in a job in Comfrey. She was interested, and took the job as a waitress at their restuarant. Steven Ennis was one of those men, and on February 15, 1938, the couple was married. Steve died on January 23, 1970 at the age of 65.

For 30 plus years, Florence was employed by the Comfrey Public School as a cook. She loved being around the students. Florence loved to be on the move and either biked or walked around until she was into her 90’s. She was a past member of Salem Lutheran Church and current member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey.

Survivors include her children, Loren (Sherry) Ennis of St. Cloud, Minnesota and RoseAnn (Karl) Korbel of Owatonna, Minnesota; grandchildren, Shawn Ennis, Faith Korbel and Stephanie Snyder and great-grandchildren, Piper, Tavia and Grayson Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steven and siblings, Ed, Laurence, Fred and Margret.

The family wishes for memorials be made to Brickstone Manor.
