Richard ‘Rick’ Gilbertson

Funeral services for 53-year-old Richard “Rick” John Gilbertson of Butterfield, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, February 2, 2017, at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James, Minnesota, with Reverend Kathleen Ulland-Klinkner officiating. The church is located at 603 Armstrong Boulevard.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in rural St. James, located south of the city on Watonwan County Road 27.

Visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Rick Gilbertson passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato.

Richard John Gilbertson (“Rick”) was born in Marshall, Minnesota on November
23, 1963, the son of Richard “Dick” and Marlys (Roiland) Gilbertson. Rick
grew up in Arco, Minnesota for his first five years, then the family moved to St.
James, where Rick graduated from high school in 1982.

Rick worked several jobs. He enjoyed welding and was working as a welder at WASP (Fast Global) in Windom, Minnesota.

Rick enjoyed the outdoors. He taught his little brother to duck hunt as a kid. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending his garden, got pretty good at raising
goats and hosted many other farm animals on his place.

Rick is survived by his parents, Dick and Marlys Gilbertson of St. James; his
brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Jen Gilbertson of St. James; his unofficial family, Zach,
Destiny and Danon and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents.
