Mass of Christian Burial for 100-year-0ld Leila Flaherty of Butterfield, Minnesota, will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016, at Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel in St. James, Minnesota, with Father Timothy Hall officiating. The funeral home is located at 906 10th Avenue South.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. James, located east of St. James on Watonwan County Road 27.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, December 19, beginning at 10 a.m.

Leila Flaherty passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health Care Center-Mankato in Mankato, Minnesota.

Leila Gertrude Thorn was born on February 23, 1916 in Faribault, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Langerman) Thorn. The family made their home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While living there, she attended school before moving to Butterfield.

In April 1940, she married Michael Alvin Flaherty of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, at the St. James Catholic Church parsonage in St. James.

Leila was a member of ladies aid, enjoyed sewing and needle work, and loved dancing and traveling. She also loved spending time with her family and visiting with friends.

Leila was a recent resident of the Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont, Minnesota.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Pat (Jo) Flaherty of Butterfield and Don (Mary) Flaherty of Farmington, Minnesota; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debra Sykes of Stayton, Oregon and Arlene (Harlan) Hanson of St. James; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents and two brothers Oreman Thorn and Alvin Thorn.

Leila will be greatly missed.
