Rose Veenker

rose-veenkerMass of Christian Burial for 83-year-old Rose Veenker of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday morning, October 31, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. The church is located at 532 17th Street.

Visitation will be at LaCanne Family Funeral Home of Windom, located at 2280 6th Avenue, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today (Sunday, October 30, 2016), with Parish Prayers at 6:45 p.m. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Rose Veenker passed away at her home in Windom on Thursday, October 27, 2016.

Rose Marie (Larson) Veenker was born on February 13, 1933 in Fertile, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis O. and Anna F. (Gray) Larson. She was baptized and later confirmed in Fertile. Rose received her early education from Fertile Public Schools and graduated from Worthington Public School.

Rose was united in marriage to Eugene Liepold in 1949. They were blessed with three children, Timothy, Nancy and Debra. The marriage was later dissolved.

She married Gerald Veenker on December 6, 1969 in Windom. This marriage was blessed with one son, Randy.

Rose worked in Windom at the Ben Franklin Store, Hanson Floral Shop and for Ruenitz & Gudmestad, Attorneys at Law, as a legal secretary. She also did part-time typing for the Cottonwood County Court Reporter. She was an interpreter for the deaf in various capacities. In addition, Rose did accountant and secretary work for the Delft Farm Chemical Plant of Delft, Minnesota in her home office until 1984. She taught sign language in the Windom Public School from 1985 to 1986, following which she retired. Rose continued living at her home in Windom until passing away with her family by her side.

Rose was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom and was an active member of the WCCW. She was a Girl Scout Leader, on the Citizens Advisory Committee of the Southwestern Mental Health Center, an active member of the Windom Hospital Auxiliary and the Windom National Guard Auxiliary, where she held various offices.

After retiring, she enjoyed traveling and spent the winter months in Texas and later in Arizona. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, oil painting, bowling and coffee in the mornings with her friends. Most importantly, Rose loved to visit with family, friends and relatives. She loved her family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her the greatest joy.

Rose is survived by three children, Timothy (Mickey) Liepold of Rochester, Minnesota, Nancy (Dale) Reinitz of Windom and Debra (Ted) Horkey of Windom; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gerald Veenker in 1984 and Eugene Liepold in 2002; son, Randy Veenker and two sisters, JoAnn (Lloyd) Schultz and BettyAnn (John) Harvey.
