Olgar Baarson passed away on Sunday morning, October 9, 2016, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James, Minnesota.

Olgar  “Oggie” Baarson was born on October 24, 1919, the daughter of Oscar and Jane (Anderson) Baarson in Watonwan County, Minnesota. He attended country rural school in Watonwan County. Olgar then worked for various farmers in the area. He entered the United States Army in 1942, serving until his honorable discharge on December 19, 1945.

On February 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Florence Sandberg. After their marriage, they lived in Odin where Olgar was employed at the Standard Oil Station and operated the Bulk Truck for over 36 years until his retirement in 1982. After retirement, he worked part-time for Watonwan Farm Service.

Florence died on March 26, 2014. Olgar lived in Odin until recently moving to Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Odin Fire Department, Constable of Odin, helped with fireworks on the Fourth of July in Odin and volunteered to serve “Meals on Wheels” in Odin.

Olgar enjoyed bowling, golfing, riding his bicycle around Odin, loved to be outdoors, fishing, playing cards and loved to play practical jokes on people.

During his lifetime, Olgar did so many things that went unnoticed because he didn’t want any attention. He was always there to help whoever needed help. He always wanted to leave everyone with a smile! He always thought of others before himself!  His love for Odin and the people that lived there all these years never wavered! He always said that there is no place like Odin!
