Rodney ‘Gus’ Schulte

rodney-gus-schulteA memorial service for 76-year-old Rodney “Gus” Schulte of Butterfield, Minnesota, will be 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, September 17, 2016 at the Community Bible Church in Butterfield, with Reverend Tim Hall officiating. The church is located at 100 Chapman street.

Burial, with full military honors, will be at 12:30 p.m., Monday afternoon, September 19, 2016 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, located at 7601 34th Avenue South.

Visitation will be at the church the day of the memorial service from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel, is handling the arrangements.

Rodney “Gus” Schulte died on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

Rodney Lee “Gus” Schulte was born in Mountain Lake on September 14, 1939, the son of Harold and Martha (Adams) Schulte. Gus grew up in Mountain Lake, moving to Comfrey, Minnesota, where he graduated from the Comfrey High School. He joined the United States Army in 1957 and served three years.

On April 9, 1961, Gus married Mary Ann Nelson in St. James, Minnesota. The couple lived in Comfrey before moving to Butterfield in 1962. Gus was a truck driver, owning and operating his own truck for a number of years. He also worked for the elevator in Butterfield and drove truck for several companies, retiring in 2004.

Gus enjoyed retirement; was active in the Butterfield VFW, Butterfield Lions Club, loved to mow the grass at Voss Park and was a member of the BTA (Butterfield Threshermen’s Association) Gus had a love for classic cars and was a member of Prairieland Antique Car Club, AACA and Ford Retractable Club. Gus also served on the Butterfield Volunteer Fire Department. He mentored many during his 36+ years of sobriety. Gus was always ready to offer a ride to anyone that needed a lift to a doctor’s appointment or grocery store. He enjoyed coffee club, playing cards, wintering in Florida and traveling. He loved his family, and always enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Gus was a good, kind, generous person, always bringing a smile to your face and always had time for conversation and laughter.

Gus is survived by his wife, Mary of Butterfield; children; Kendall “Butch” (Julie) Schulte of Sioux City, Iowa, Keith (Kelly) Schulte of St. James and Kendra Schulte of Chaska, Minnesota; brother Delmar “Tod” (Dianne) Schulte of Cottonwood, California; sisters, Bernice (Bob) Hendrickson of Aurora, Colorado and Marcelle “Pix” (Allan) Noga of Bullhead City, Arizona and five grandchildren, Callan, Courtney and Caden of Sioux City, Ioa and Kamden and Kolby of St. James and many other dear relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stanley “Corky” Schulte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Compassionate Care Hospice (Worthington Branch).
