Some area residents were greeted with a stormy morning as severe weather rumbled across the region on Wednesday a.m. The storms dropped large hail in some spots and winds took down trees and power lines in others.

The National Weather Service had reports of one-inch hailstones in Butterfield just after 8 a.m., with St. James noting 0.88″ hail. In addition, crops were damaged west of Lewisville.

In the City of St. James, law enforcement reported multiple trees down, along with power lines, at approximately 8:30 a.m. In fact, Minnesota State Highway #4 was closed for a time in Watonwan County as repair crews repaired a power line that was on the roadway.

As the storm continued its eastward roll, heavy rains were dumped in the Mankato area, with hail falling around Madison Lake for a short time. This sam system featured 58 miles per hour wind gusts registered a Mankato Regional Airport.

During the course of the morning, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were posted by the National Weather Service for Jackson, Watonwan, Martin, Faribault, Blue Earth and LeSueur Counties.
