mary johnsonCelebration of Life services for 76-year-old Mary Johnson of Bingham Lake, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, June 15, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom, Minnesota. The church is located at 1157 3rd Avenue.

Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.

Visitation will be at LaCanne Family Funeral home in Windom on Tuesday, June 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral home is located at 2280 6th Avenue. A second visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Mary Johnson passed away on Sunday morning, June 12, at the Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake-The Village in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, with her family by her side.

Mary Kathryn Herrig was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on March 30, 1940, the daughter of Henry and Sadie (Rydberg) Herrig. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva, Iowa on May 5, 1940 and later confirmed at Faith Lutheran in Sioux Rapids, Iowa She was raised at Schaller, Iowa until moving to Sioux Rapids in 1945. Mary received her education and graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in the Class of 1958. She then attended commercial extension in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked at Georges Drug and also was a bookkeeper for Sioux Implement.

On March 27, 1960, Mary was united in marriage to Ronald Johnson at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. This union was blessed with two daughters, Lynn and Kimberly. They lived on an acreage south of Sioux Rapids and Linn Grove, Iowa, until 1965, when Ron was transferred to Bingham Lake, Minnesota. After moving to Minnesota, Mary was a bookkeeper for John Deere Implement for 15 years until joining the United States Postal Service (USPS) in Windom, Minnesota and Bingham Lake for another 15 years. Mary and Ron lived in Bingham Lake until 1971 when they purchased the Bill Fuller farm. Mary helped with the farming and livestock operation and enjoyed keeping her yard groomed.

In April 2016, Mary moved into the Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake.

Mary was active in the community, where she belonged to the Bingham Lake Progress Club, Lakeside Tuesday Club, sextet group, SAS, RSVP and volunteered at the Windom Area Hospital. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. Mary enjoyed sending cards and visiting the shut-ins. Mary and Ron enjoyed traveling to Europe and throughout the United States. She also enjoyed attending her granddaughters’ music and sporting events.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Larry) Brandt of Mountain Lake and Kim (Paul) Adamson of Savage, Minnesota; four granddaughters, Caitlin and Chanah Brandt of Mountain Lake and Lindsey and Laura Adamson of Savage; one step-grandson, Jared (Jill) Brandt and their sons, Jacob and Drew of Mankato, Minnesota; one sister, Margaret Jaeckel of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one brother, Henry (Teri) Herrig of Le Mars, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Kaye (Butch) Johnson of Monmouth, Illinois, Gail (Dave) Nichols of Ely, Minneosta and Janet Johnson of Spencer, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Steve (Lynn) Johnson of Morton; a family friend, Dick Jaeckel of Omaha, Nebraska and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, in 2001; her parents, Henry and Sadie Herrig; a brother, Richard Herrig; father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Frances Johnson and brother-in-law, Kurt Johnson.
