marlyn bartschFuneral services for 81-year-old Marlyn D. Bartsch of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, June 25, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Windom. The church is located at 450 3rd Avenue South.

Visitation will be at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom on Friday, June 24, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 2280 6th Avenue. Another visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral service from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Recently, Marlyn’s health began to decline and he passed away on Tuesday evening, June 21, 2016, in Windom.

Marlyn D. Bartsch was born on April 8, 1935, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, the son of the late Jacob H and Sadie (Weigold) Bartsch. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of three with the help of his mother. He was baptized on August 4, 1946, in Mountain Lake. He moved with his family for a short time to California before moving back to Mountain Lake, where he graduated in the Class of 1953 from Mountain Lake High School.

On June 28, 1960, Marlyn was united in marriage to Janet Rae Wiebe in Delft, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four children, Doug, Bev, Judy and Terry. After their marriage, Marlyn and Jan farmed in rural Delft until 1988. They moved to Windom in 1991. In 1988, Marlyn became the first employee for Verlyn Fast at Fast Distributing in rural Mountain Lake. After 17 years, he retired and continued to live in Windom.

Marlyn was a member of the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church in Delft for many years and currently attended the First Baptist Church in Windom. He was currently serving on the Airport Commission at the Windom Airport.

Marlyn will be remembered for his love of flying, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

Marlyn is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jan Bartsch of Windom; four children, Doug (Kim) Bartsch and their children, Spencer (Amanda) Bartsch and Bailey (Chad) Challans; Bev Bartsch Wilson and her son, Sean; Judy (Dave) Winker and their sons, Jesse (Lisa) Winker and Lucas (Aimee Paffel) Winker and their daughter, Nevin; Terry (Laura) Bartsch and their children, Anna and Joshua Bartsch; twin sister, Marlys Friesen of Omaha, Nebraska and many more relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Robert Friesen.
