Harry DerksenFuneral services for 87-year-old Harry Derksen of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, April 30, 2016, at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom. The funeral home is located at 2280 6th Avenue.

Interment will take place on Monday, May 2, 2016, at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Visitation will be at the funeral home the day of the services from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

He passed away at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.

Harry Derksen was born to Ben J. and Katharina (Enns) Derksen on December 1, 1928 on a farm north of Butterfield, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Butterfield High School in 1947.
After graduation, he worked for area farmers until he was drafted into the military during the Korean War. He served his country proudly and was honorably discharged. After his discharge he started driving truck for Land ‘O Lakes and others in the area.

In 1969 he married Elaine Ommart and this marriage was later dissolved.

He later moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and became an over-the-road truck driver for various trucking firms in the area until his retirement.

Harry enjoyed grouse hunting and fishing. After retirement, he wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona and enjoyed the warmer climate.

In August 2014, he became a resident of the Good Samaritan-Sogge Memorial in Windom.

Harry is survived by his sisters, Irene Simeroth, of Mountain Lake, Agnes (Melvin) Sandberg of Butterfield; Joann Johnson of Windom, and Janet (Don) Hoehne of Rosemount, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
