Conflict Management Support Team to hold workshop on conflict transformation skills

Conflict transformation skills.

The Central Plains Conflict Management Support Team will be holding a workshop on putting the puzzle of conflict management together on Saturday, February 27, at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. the church is located at 301 9th Street North. (Bethel Mennonite Church is affiliated with the Central Plains Mennonite Conference and the Mennonite Church USA.)

The Conflict Management Support Team (CMST) was originally formed to help congregations, pastors and conference leaders within Central Plains to manage conflict in ways that lead toward reconciliation and forgiveness. Its initial purpose is to instruct, model and lead constructive methods of conflict management that are consistent with their Anabaptist Mennonite faith. The CMST has now expanded to serve a larger audience.

CSMT is an approved Continuing Education (CE) Provider by Minnesota Board of Social Work. CE certificates are available.

Upon registering for the workshop (7.25 CE hours), attendees will receive an individual profile assessment to complete and return ASAP.

The CMST members are:

+ Elizabeth Troyer-Miller – She is the Team Leader and works for Central Mediation Center in Kearney, Nebraska, and as a trainer for the Nebraska Mediation Association. She learned a Bachelor of Arts. in Peace, Justice and Conflict Studies from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana and an Master of Science in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

+ Lon Marshall – He is a licensed marriage and family therapist. He works in private practice and is the founder and owner of Cornerstone Brief Therapy in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, Iowa corridor. For the past 25 years, he has worked in critical incident de-briefing, conflict resolution, counseling and therapy in many contexts.

+ Lois Janzen Preheim – She holds an Master of Divinity and was director/mediator for the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (now Restore) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 17 years. Lois has additional mediation training from Lombard Mennonite Peace Center in Lombard, Illinois; with the Victim Offender Mediation Association and the University of Minnesota.

 + Gordon Krause – He has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, and has been a pastor and counselor. He was the moderator of his congregation when it journeyed through a process of conflict resolution led by the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center. He is from Mountain Lake.

+ Galen Kauffman – He holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a Master of Science in education focused on teaching, learning and leadership. He has pastored in various denominations for 30 years, including times of shepherding his congregations through conflicts and change. He is from Mountain Lake.
