Kathleen Svalland named first female chair of County Board of Commissioners
History was made on Tuesday, January 4 during the first meeting of the new year of the Watonwan County Board of Commissioners. Kathleen Svalland, representing District 5, was named the first-ever female chairperson in the history of the county’s governing board. She replaces Ray Gustafson, while Keith Brekken replaces Scott Sanders as vice-chair.
Svalland, of Butterfield, has served on the County Board since 2012. Her current term expires in 2016. District 5 includes the cities of Butterfield, Darfur, Odin and Ormsby, along with the townships of Adrian, Butterfield, Odin, Long Lake and South Branch.
