Sandra died peacefully surrounded by her family at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Sunday, November 15, 2015, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Petty was born in Windom, Minnesota to Jess and Edith (Wessendorf) Penoyer. On June 20th, 1964, Sandy married the love of her life, Rex Petty. Throughout their 51 years of marriage, Sandy and Rex would spend hours playing games together. Sandy ‘s favorite game was Yahtzee because she seemed to always win; and yes, she made sure to keep score as to how many games she was ahead of Rex.

For as long as people can remember, Sandy did daycare out of her home and loved those children as if they were her own. When her last daycare family “graduated,” it was then that Sandy became a baker at Casey’s in Butterfield and -boy – were her doughnuts and cookies delicious.

Although the men in her life saw them as only dust collectors, Sandy loved to collect and display tins in her home. Prior to her passing, Sandy was actively involved in activities at Highland Baptist Church in St. James. She also enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. Sandy loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and having her family all together in one place.

She is survived by her husband, Rex Petty of Butterfield; two sons, Lowell (Lisa) Petty of Muscatine, Iowa and Andrew (Katherine) Petty of Odin, Minnesota; grandchildren, Stephanie (Leon) Wollschlager of Windom, Minnesota, Logan Petty of Muscatine, Landon Petty of Muscatine, Ethan Petty of Odin and Olivia Petty of Odin; great-grandchildren, Damian, Natalia Jr. and Jacob, and her sister, Barb (Leland C.) Johnson of Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
