Suspicious death in Cottonwood County ruled a homicide

This afternoon (Friday, October 9), the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office released information on a suspicious death discovered on Wednesday, October 7. At 3:38 p.m. that afternoon, deputies responded to the scene of a reportedly deceased male at a residence north of Windom.

The Ramsey County medical examiner’s office completed an autopsy and determined that the victim, identified by the medical examiner as Travis Svalland, 43, of Windom, died of homicide due to a gunshot wound.

Assisting the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the homicide is the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).

Law enforcement has no one in custody at this time. The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s assistance in this investigation, and encourages the public to be vigilant, to continue with normal safety precaution and to report suspicious activities to authorities.
