Douglas Bixby dies from injuries suffered in crash after chase
According to http://www.keloland.com/news/, a 58-year-old man from Windom was killed in a one-vehicle crash near Brookings, South Dakota following a chase that involved the victim and a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper.
On Sunday night, September 13, at approximately 11:20 p.m., the Highway Patrol received the report of an erratic driver on Interstate #29, near the United States Highway #14 bypass. When a trooper attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver of the 1997 Ford Crown Victoria fled.
During the course of the chase, after the driver of the Ford car began traveling eastbound onto the Highway #14 bypass, at speeds went up to 80 miles per hour. The Ford did not stop at the intersection of Highway #14 and bypass. It left the road and crashed into a ditch embankment and tree.
The Brookings Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the Ford, Douglas Allen Bixby, died from injuries suffered in the crash. It is believed alcohol was a factor in the event.
Also responding were the Brookings Police Department, Brookings Fire Department, and Brookings Ambulance Squad.
The accident is under investigation with the sheriff’s office.
