Viola Marlette

Viola Marlette was born on January 18, 1932, in Vergas, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Orris and Elizabeth (Persons) McCollum. She lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1943-1965, when she moved to Henderson, Minnesota.

She was united in marriage to Robert LaCoursiere in June of 1948 in Minneapolis. This marriage later ended in divorce.

Viola’s education included vo-tech in Minneapolis and beauty school.

In 1977, she moved to Windom and was united in marriage to Doran Marlette on April 29, 1977 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They then lived in several places throughout Minnesota after that until 2000, when they moved to Jeffers, Minnesota.

On May 13, 2014, Doran passed away. After his death, Viola remained in her home for a short time before becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake-The Village in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, where she passed away on Thursday morning, July 9, 2015, at the age of 83 years.

Viola was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary in Jeffers. She also had many enjoyments in life which included canning, camping, gardening and was a fantastic cook.

Viola is survived by her five daughters, Kathleen Smith of Jeffers, Penny Morgel of Minneapolis;,Karen Abernathy of Bovy, Minnesota, Cherrie LaCoursiere of Faribault, Minnesota and Mary LaCoursiere of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doran Marlette; daughter, Linda Deloris LaCoursiere; three brothers, Clifford, Donald and Delmar McCollum and two sisters, Evelyn and Mary Ann McCollum.

LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom, Minnesota, handled the arrangements.
