ruth haugenA Celebration of Life Service for Ruth Ann Haugen, 68, of rural Odin, Minnesota will be 11 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Reverend Carla Reierson will officiate at the services.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to  7 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 1015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, Minnesota and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Ruth Haugen passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at her home in rural Odin.

Ruth Ann Marie Espelund was born on January 11, 1947, the daughter of  Palmer and Raghnild (Bertilson) Espelund in St. James, Minnesota. She was baptized in 1947 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and later confirmed at First Lutheran Church in St. James. She attended school in Ormsby, Minnesota, and later was a 1965 Graduate of St. James Public High School.

Ruth Ann was then employed in Manufacturing at Sherr-Tumico in St. James.

On November 25, 1967, she was united in marriage to Richard Haugen at First Lutheran Church in St. James. After their marriage, they lived in the Butterfield-Odin area. Ruth Ann was employed at Toro in Windom, Minnesota, Westin’s in St. James and then in health care at the St. James Hospital until her retirement in 2010. Ruth Ann then helped various farmers in the area.

She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Ruth Ann greatly enjoyed fishing, camping, playing horse shoes, softball, billards and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was known for her annual Fourth of July gatherings.

Survivors include her husband, Richard “Dick” Haugen of rural Odin; daughter, Kristine (Todd) Kern of Lismore, Minnesota; son, Spence Haugen and girlfriend, Amber, of Squaw Lake, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Michaela, Gregory and Morgan Kern and Paxton Haugen; brother, Jerome (Darlyne) Espelund of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Mary Carlson of Omaha and Judy (Kenny) Christensen of rural St. James; brothers-in-law, Ron Haugen of Kasota, Minnesota and Robert (Diane) Haugen of Hawley, Minnesota; special friend, Natalie Knickrehm of Trimont; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Also remembered are Ruth Ann’s two special dogs, Sammie and Dixie.

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Espelund; father and mother-in-law, Morgan and Florence Haugen and other relatives.
