Cobra youth wrestlers in NYWA Regional Tourney

Ten advance to the State Meet in Rochester this March 26-29

nywa-logoForty members of the Windom/Mountain Lake Cobra Youth Wrestling Team participated and placed at the NYWA (Northland Youth Wrestling Association) regional tournament in Windom on Saturday, March 21. A total of 471 young wrestlers competed in the tourney.

Ten Cobras placed and will advance to the state tournament in Rochester this weekend.

Those moving on include:

* First-Place Wrestlers – Zach Spinks, Alex Borsgard and Jabari Carlton.

* Second-Place Wrestlers – Brett Willaby, Kaden Haberman and Kade Sammons.

* Third-Place Wrestlers – Caden Swoboda, Kole Haberman, Henry Visker and Ian Richardson.

Other placers were:

* Fourth-Place Wrestlers – Ethan Schleicher, Tucker Renquist and Hunter Konz.

* Fifth-Place Wrestlers – Drake Harder, Trenton Renquist, Phoukhank Xayachak, Owen Veerkamp and Quintin Tietz.

* Sixth-Place Wrestlers – Austin Pohlman, Jesse Jepsen, Hunter Ekstrom, Anthony Cihak and Elliot Serreyn.

The NYWA State and Invite Tournaments will be held conjunctly at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester from Thursday, March 26 to Sunday, March 29.

Team competition begins on Thursday for 7th- and 8th-grade teams.  There will be two separate weigh-ins for 7th- 8th-graders, those wrestling on team – and those who aren’t on team.  There will be a separate weigh-in time for 5th- and 6th-graders.

Individual competition for 7th- and 8th-graders will begin on Thursday and competition for 5th- and 6th-graders will begin Friday morning.

Any wrestlers who place 1st-3rd at regions advance to state – with the exception of the 4th-placer from the wildcard region, which also advances to state.

Any wrestler who places 4th-6th at regions can register for the Invite Tournament. Any wrestler who participated at regions – or any wrestler who is coming to state as part of a team – can then register for the Invite.
