mary thompsonFuneral services for 57-year-old Mary Thompson of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 10, 2015, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom, located at 532 17th Street

Interment will be in the church cemetery in rural Windom.

Father Russell Scepaniak will officiate at the services.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 9,  2015, at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom, located at 2280 6th Avenue. Parish Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Visitation will continue at the church the day of the funeral from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Mary Thompson passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge in Windom.

Mary Jo Thompson was born on December 11, 1957, in Windom, the daughter of Curtis and Elizabeth (Langland) Harrington. She was baptized at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom and was later confirmed in that same church. Mary Jo received her early education in Wilder, Minnesota and graduated from the Windom Area Public High School with the Class of 1976. She then attended nursing school at Jackson Vo-Tech in Jackson, Minnesota.

On October 22, 1977, Mary Jo was united in marriage to Malon Thompson at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. After marriage, they lived in Windom and Mary Jo worked at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial from 1977-1986. She then worked as a home health care aide for Jackson/Cottonwood County Nursing Services from 1986 until retiring in 1995. After retiring, Mary continued to live in her own home in Windom until the last month, when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge in Windom.

Mary was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom, where she was a member of the WCCW, a lector and a member of the choir.

She will be remembered for her enjoyment of baking and would enter her baked goods in the Cottonwood County fair. She also made the best mints and was known as a master mint maker.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 37 years, Malon Thompson of Windom; son, Andrew Thompson of Moose Lake, Minnesota; siblings, Jeanette Harrington of Iowa City, Iowa; Steve (Ann) Harrington of Duluth, Minnesota; Betsy (Stan) Morse of Riceville, Iowa; Karen (Robert) Owen of Forest Lake, Minnesota; Teresa (Paul) Grothe of Rosemount, Minnesota and Kris (Terry) Soderman of West Valley City, Utah; sister-in-law, Darelyn Harrington of Storden, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Harrington; sister, Cathy Prins and brother, Michael Harrington.
