A private memorial service was held for 78-year-old Dennis Johnson of Torrance, California at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Dennis Johnson passed away at his home in Torrance on Monday, December 29, 2014, after fearlessly battling cancer for over 15 years.
Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial Chapel, Inc., of Rancho Palos Verdes, handled the funeral arrangements.
Dennis, the son of John and Augusta Johnson, was born on May 9, 1936 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. During his lifetime, he enjoyed a career that revolved around his lifelong love of aviation, and had almost 40 years of dedicated service to Western Airlines and Delta Airlines, where he was known as a perfecting and master mechanic. This career sent Dennis around the country and to other parts of the world, where he flew to address the most difficult aircraft repairs. He was also deeply and passionately involved with serving in the Teamster’s Union and diligently represented his fellow employees.
Upon retirement Dennis was almost more active, taking leadership roles in the West Coast Chapter of the Delta Pioneers Retiree Association, and being selected to serve as a Commissioner on the Torrance Airport Commission.
He had been a residence of Torrance for over 50 years.
Survivors include his children, Diana M. Johnson and Steven D. and (Sandra E.) Johnson; his sister, Deloris Kispert and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mimi.
