Patrica “Pat” K. Hedquist passed away on Sunday morning, November 2, 2014, at The Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake.

Patricia “Pat” Kay Hedquist was born on October 1, 1936, in Slayton, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Clifford Clair and Edna Carrie (Samp) Johnson. She was baptized at an early age at the Dundee Lutheran Church in Dundee, Minnesota and was confirmed in this same church in 1950. Pat received her education from the Fulda (Minnesota) Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 1954. She then attended Gale and the University of Minnesota from 1954-1957.

Pat was united in marriage to Duane W. Schenatzki. This union was blessed with two children, Todd Allen and Teri Ann. This marriage was later dissolved.

On June 28, 1975, Pat was united in marriage to John Olaf Hedquist. They made their home in rural Heron Lake, Minnesota, where together they ran a farming operation that included livestock and grain. This union resulted in the birth of John J. Hedquist.

This was a happy and busy time for Pat. She loved working with the cattle and hogs, tending to her yard and hosting and caring for anyone who worked in the farming operation. She also spent many hours making sure her three children were able to be involved in whatever activities they chose. She loved going to Todd and John’s hockey games and taking Teri to horse shows in the summer.

John Olaf passed away on October 21, 1994. After his death, Pat remained on the farm.

In 1995, she found a lifelong, faithful and loving companion in Leo Rasche of Heron Lake. Pat and Leo shared many great experiences traveling, golfing, spending time at John and Jenny’s cabin on Fish Lake and just sharing their day-to day-routine. Once Pat was no longer able to be at home, Leo visited her every evening, with the exception of snowstorms and hospitalization. He was a great companion to her.

Pat moved off the farm over two years ago into Mickelson Manor in Windom, where she enjoyed living up until very recently when she became a resident of The Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake.

Pat was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. She was also active with the Cottonwood County Arena Association, American and Minnesota Quarter Horse Associations, Southwest Minnesota Horse Show Association and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Pat is survived by her two children, Teri Hedquist Scott (Tony) of Heron Lake; John J. Hedquist (Jenny) of Heron Lake; five grandchildren, Torrey, Parker, Dakota, Hobie and Hayden; special companion, Leo Rasche of Heron Lake and many other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Olaf Hedquist; one son, Todd Allen Hedquist and one brother, James Claire Johnson.

Memorials are preferred to The Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake.
