Darrell Zea

darrell zeaVisitation for 78-year-old Darrell Zea of Lakefield, Minnesota, will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, September 25, 2014, at LaCanne Family Funeral Home of Windom, Minnesota, located at 2280 6th Avenue.

Darrell Dale Zea was born on April 24, 1936, the son of the late Raymond and Mary (Lorenz) Zea in Odin Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota. He received his education in Butterfield, Minnesota and lived and worked in the Butterfield area.

He was united in marriage to Vida Pettis in Butterfield and moved to Minneapolis. Two children, Debbie Ann and Jeffery Darrell, were born to this union. This marriage was later dissolved, and Darrell then returned to the Butterfield area.

On August 9, 1969, Darrell was united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Lakefield, Minnesota, to Norma Ann Fetcho. Two sons were born to this union, Gary DeWayne and Michael Ray. After marriage, Darrell and Norma lived in Heron Lake, Minnesota, where Darrell worked for the City of Heron Lake for a short time. They moved to Lakefield and Darrell worked for Vern Steffens at Steffens GMC in Windom as a car detailer for over 20 until retiring.

Darrell enjoyed woodworking, fishing, sprint car races and spending time with family and friends.

Earlier this year, Darrell was diagnosed with cancer and became a resident of the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota, where he passed away on Saturday afternoon, September 20, 2014.

Darrell is survived by three sons, Jeffery Zea and his special friend, Angela White, of Slayton, Minnesota, Gary Zea Lakefield and Michael Zea and his special friend, Jodi Schroeder of Worthington; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Althea Sender of Anaga, Kansas, Kathleen (Robert) Shuck of Catlett, Virginia and Florence Allen of Rochester, Minnesoeta; three brothers, Charles (Kathleen) Zea of Madelia, Minnesota, Harry (Deanna) Zea of Hanska, Minnesota and David (Linda) Zea of Rochester, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Eldora (Krumbach) Zea of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; brother-in-law, Alan Gudbaur of Racine, Wisconsin and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Norma Zea; daughter, Debbie; one granddaughter, Tisha; two sisters, Ruth Zea and Elthel (Zea) Gudbaur and two brothers, Leon Zea and Donald Zea.
