Providing for a pair of new basketball standards, backboards, hoops and nets for the court at Mountain Lake City Park was a triple combination work of donations, volunteerism – and faith.

According to Micah Siebert, who spearheaded the effort and who works as youth pastor at Cornerstone Bible Church in Mountain Lake, as well as working part-time at The Studio in Mountain Lake, a Youth For Christ Ministry, “this effort has been supported from a variety of different angles so far.

“These include – the donation of the bulk of the material a percentage of donated labor and painting, concrete and installation by the City of Mountain Lake and the Street/Park/Cemetery department, donated backboards and rims – as well as costs financed in part through the Mountain Lake Ministerial Association’s Pow Wow offerings at the Sunday morning worship service and the evening concert featuring House of Aaron, both on the city park’s bandstand along with additional individual contributions.”

Cement for the foundations of the standards was poured earlier this week, with the old hoops removed and the new ones installed on Friday, July 18.

As soon as the first of the new hoops was in place – local ball players were busy breaking in the equipment.
