A ‘Special K’ kind of day

Seventh-annual Kids Fest to be held this Friday

kids fest 2014This Friday, August 1 will be a “Special K” kind of day celebrating – and expressly for – the kids in the Mountain Lake area as the seventh-annual Kids Fest comes to Mountain Lake City Park. Kids Fest is a free end-of-summer/back-to-school event for kids ages preschool through sixth grade. Activities will run from 3 p.m. to 7  p.m.

Mountain Lake Assembly of God established Kids Fest as a way to offer a free, fun and safe event for kids that will demonstrate to them, their families and the community how much they are loved on so many levels. In addition to the activities, Kids Fest offers practical support to families in the form of backpacks and supplies for the new school year. Mountain Lake Assembly returns with the event even in the midst of the church’s building project.

Event activities will include inflatable games such as an obstacle course, bungee run, bounce house and slide; a dunk tank; free meal of hot dogs (meal can be purchased by adults for $2), chips and milk; a water balloon fight; face painting; gaga ball and a tug-of-war.

Kids Fest finale will be its big giveaway of prizes and over 100 backpacks full of school supplies. “While significantly organized, staffed and paid for by Mountain Lake Assembly, this event would not be possible without the generous support of dozens of local businesses and individuals from our community,” offers Pastor David. “We deeply appreciate the community support.”

There is one significant change this year. As its name is Kids Fest, those able to register must be preschool age through sixth-grade. In the past, seventh- and eighth-graders have been included, but this year, those students (as well as older teens and adults) are encouraged to volunteer for the event if they would like to participate. “This allows us to focus our attention on the kids this event was originally designed to reach,” explains David Savage, pastor of Mountain Lake Assembly.

Sponsors for the event include Lohrenz Excavating, Town’s Edge Auto, Midway Farm Equipment, Midway Auto Body, Hanson Realty, Mt. Lake Floral, Paradise Cove Salon, Hoek Outdoors, Klassen Farms, Jordana’s, Bargens, Inc. and United Prairie Bank.
