curtis olsonA Celebration of Life Service for 87-year-old Curtis G. Olson of Sherburn, Minnesota will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, May 23, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, the Reverend Steven D. Wilson officiating.

Interment will be in Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Curtis G. Olson passed away on Sunday morning, May 18, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

He was born on December 26, 1926, the son of Harry and Marie (Sjogren) Olson in Cedar Township of Martin County, Minnesota and was baptized on February 3, 1927 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Triumph, Minnesota. He was confirmed on December 16, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Curtis attended and was a 1944 graduate of Triumph-Monterey Public High School.

After his high school graduation, he farmed in Martin County.

On October 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Leila Mae Carlson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, After their marriage, they lived on a farm west of Trimont, Minnesota in Cedar Township. They later moved to a farm in Elm Creek Township of Martin County until moving into Sherburn in 1971.

Curtis owned and operated Curtis Olson Agency and worked for Land Services, both of Sherburn, for many years. He was involved with ROK Partnership in Sherburn as well for many years.

Curtis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as a Sunday School and Release Time teacher, and was at one time President of the Congregation. He was a member of the Sherburn Lions Club, was a Gideon and served on the Sherburn City Council as mayor. Curtis held professional rating as LUTC, CLU, CFC and was a member of NAIFA.

Survivors include two sons, Kurt Olson of Sherburn and Karl (Deb) Olson of Sherburn; grandchildren, Derek (Ashely) Olson, Christopher (Christi) Knox, Michael Johnson, Zachary Olson, Tony Connors, Eric Olson, Christina Olson and Brian Olson; great-grandchildren, Reese Addison Olson, Elizabeth Ann Knox, Noah Knox and Emmet Michael Olson; a brother, Lloyd H. Olson of Trimont, a sister-in-law, Mabel Olson of rural Mountain Lake, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Curtis had many numerous foster grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Leila Mae Olson on December 9,  2008; brothers, Burton Olson and Lester and Doris Olson; a nephew Stephen Olson; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Dolores Peterson; mother and father-in-law, Roland and Josie Carlson and other relatives.
