Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Sandbo

kenneth sandboFuneral services for 76-year-old Kenneth “Kenny” Sandbo of Windom, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday morning, April 21, 2014, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior of Windom, located at 1157 3rd Avenue.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at LaCanne Family Funeral Home of Windom, located at 2280 6th Avenue, as well as at the church one hour prior to the start of the service.

Kenny became suddenly ill at home on Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2014, and was taken to the Windom Area Hospital in Windom, where he passed away a short time later.

Kenneth “Kenny” Lee Sandbo was born on May 7, 1937, in St. James, Minnesota, the son of the late Olaf and Alvina Bertha (Weber) Sandbo. He was baptized on June 27, 1937 in rural Odin, Minnesota and was later confirmed in 1952 at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Kenny received his early education at Highland Public Elementary School in Windom and graduated from Windom Public High School in the Class of 1955. He then obtained his student pilot’s license.

On June 3, 1962, Kenny was united in marriage to JoAnn Kay Wahl at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Mike and Mark. Through the years, Kenny worked in various construction jobs and was a welder and a self-employed carpenter and sold used cars until his retirement.

Kenny was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom and the Rod Benders of Windom. He had many enjoyments in life which included his love of old cars, especially his black ’57 Chevy 2-door hardtop, spending time with his family, his two sons and grandson, gambling with friends Barb and Dale and Wade and Deb and watching NASCAR. The highlight of his life was going with Donny Kalash to the air show at Holmen Airfield in St. Paul, Minnesot, where he was able to ride in a P51 Mustang and has an autographed picture of the plane and pilot. In his younger years, he built and raced stock cars in Jackson.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 51 years, JoAnn Sandbo of Windom; two sons, Michael (Susan) Sandbo of Windom and their son, Samuel; Mark Sandbo of Loretta, Minnesota; step-sister, Betty (Howard) Sneer of Laport, Minneosta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Sandbo of Young America, Minnesota; LaVonne (John) Sandbo Simola of Big Lake, Minnesota; Marilyn Wahl of Windom; Marlene (Vince) Sandhurst of New Ulm, Minnesota; Rodney Wahl of Fulda, Minnesota; Harley (Jane) Wahl of Slayton, Minnesota; Arlyn (Dawn) Wahl of Ft. Ripley; Kenneth Wahl of Westbrook, Minnesota; DuWayne (Verna) Wahl of Nevada; Mariette Wahl of California and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Marie Sandbo; brothers, Dennis Sandbo and James Sandbo and twin brothers at birth.
