Marie ‘Mary’ W. Bogle

mary bogleFuneral services for Marie “Mary” W. Bogle, 93, of Windom, Minnesota will be held Saturday morning, March 8, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Windom, located at 450 3rd Avenue.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014, at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom, located at 2280 6th Avenue.

Marie “Mary” W. Bogle was born on July 23, 1920, the daughter of the late Peter John and Josephine Walburga (List) Hittesdorf in Leavenworth, Minnesota. She received her education at the St. Mary’s Catholic School in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. She then continued her education at Mankato State College in Mankato, Minnesota and specialized as an adult literacy tutor. In 1951, Mary was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Windom, and became a member of that church.

After finishing her education, Mary taught in country school before marriage. On June 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Bogle Jr. in Sleepy Eye. For 38 years, Mary worked at the Cottonwood County DAC (Development Achievement Center) and won many awards for her work with disabled individuals. She also became a certified tutor and worked with the literacy council. She also testified before the state legislature for PKU (phenylketonuria) testing of babies. Mary introduced child evangelism to Windom and directed it for 19 years, along with cooking at Shetek Bible Camp for 20 summers. In 1983, John passed away in Windom. After his death, she continued to live in Windom.

In the past couple of months, Mary’s health began to decline and she was recently hospitalized at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom where she passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2014.

Mary was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Windom where she was a church hostess, deaconess, Sunday School teacher and a junior youth group leader. She also was a member of ARC (For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities)  and AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) where she held various offices.

Mary is survived by her children John “Pete” (Dorothy) Bogle of Dayton, Minnesota; Mary (Bob) Duncan of Windom; Nancy Duncan of Windom; Ruth Ritter of Ashland, Wisconsin; Mike (Celeste) Bogle of Windom; Janet (Bruce) Boldt of Windom; Scotty (Ly) Bogle of St. James, Minnesota; Kathy Bogle of Willmar, Minnesota; Hope (Rick) Reichert of Robbinsdale, Minnesota; Jim (April) Bogle of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; foster son Doug Winter of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother Robert “Bob” Hittesdorf; one sister Theresa Boyer of Seal Beach, California and several nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband John Bogle J.r, son, Robert Bogle; son-in-law Jim Duncan, son-in-law Tom Ritter. one brother Magnus (Ruby) Hittesdorf and great-grandson, Austin Boerboom.
