lavera nordbyA Celebration of Life Services for 89-year-old LaVera Nordby of Odin, Minnesota will be held at 11 a.m. this Monday, March 10, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Odin, with Reverend  Carla Reierson officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Odin.

LaVera Nordby passed away on Wednesday evening, March 5, 2014 at Pleasantview Good Samaritan Society in St. James, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m.-5 p.m., tomorrow (Sunday, March 9, 2014), at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, Minnesota and again one hour prior to the services at the Church on Monday. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralome.com.

LaVera Rose Hannah Breitbarth was born on November 12, 1924 in Wishek, North Dakota, the daughter of August and Alvinia (Busch) Breitbarth and was baptized on January 25, 1925 in Wishek and later confirmed on June 25, 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monterey, Minnesota. LaVera graduated from Triumph-Monterey Public High School with the Class of 1942. She then was employed in the office of the Block and Silo Company in Monterey.

On February 22, 1948, she was united in marriage to Reuben K. Nordby at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monterey. After their marriage, they farmed in Cedar Township until moving into Odin. LaVera was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Odin where she held various offices and faithfully served the church. She also was a member of the Donald Larson V.F.W. Auxiliary in Butterfield, Minnesota, in which she held various offices. LaVera served her Odin community by serving on various committees and functions. She volunteered at the Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Lake, Minnesota and been a committed American Red Cross blood donor. In her spare time LaVera could be found quilting and sewing, especially hot pads and hats for soldiers.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Michael and Chris Nordby of rural Odin; three grandchildren, Zachariah (Holly) Nordby of Bend, Oregon, Chatrina (Sebastian) Huddleston of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Michaela Nordby of rural Odin, Minnesota; two great- grandchildren, Aubriana and Leila Huddleston; three sisters, Luella Wolff of Fairmont, Minnesota, Viola Bernhardt of Trimont and Estella Anderson of St. James; sister-in-law, Arlene Nordby of Rogers, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents August and Alvinia Breitbarth, LaVera was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben K. Nordby on September 27, 2000; a brother, Alfred Breitbarth and other relatives.
