Florence Baarson

florence baarsonA Celebration of Life service for 85-year-old Florence Baarson, of Odin, Minnesota will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, April 2, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Odin, with Reverend Carla Reierson officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Odin.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Kramer Funeral Home in Trimont, Minnesota and again one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Florence passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2014, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James, Minnesota.

Florence Lydia Julia Sandberg was born on December 1, 1928, the daughter of Frank and Lily (Holland) Sandberg in Long Lake Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota. She was received into the Kingdom of God through Holy Baptism in 1928 at Zion Lutheran Church in Odin. Florence received her education in country school in Long Lake Township. She was confirmed on April 1, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church in Odin. She lived on the farm in rural Odin until her marriage to Olgar Baarson on February 22, 1947.

After their marriage, she lived in Odin until entering the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James on July 9, 2013.

Florence would help at the Odin Store when Violet and Carlton owned it. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, a member of the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and made doughnuts and lefse at church functions. She enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, baking and watching soap operas. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Olgar Baarson of Odin; daughters, Linda (Don) Feeney of Graham, Washington, Betty (Kevin) Williams of Fairmont, Minnesota and Nancy (Bob) Curry of St. James; son-in-law, Ron Schwab of New Ulm, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Melvin (Agnes) Sandberg of Butterfield, Minnesota and LeRoy (Bernice) Sandberg of Fairmont and other relatives and friends.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lily Sandberg; daughter, Brenda Schwab; grandparents, Andrew and Helen Holland and Andrew and Hanna Sandberg and other relatives.
