MLC Elementary’s 2015 Spelling Bee champs

Top spellers, first- and second-runners-up for each grade level recognized at annual competition

Mountain Lake Christian (MLC) Elementary held its 2015 Spelling Bee on Thursday morning, January 22, 2014, in the Cornerstone Bible Church in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Champions were crowned in grades one-through-six, along with a first-runner-up and second runner-up for each level.

Oak (grades 3 and 4) teacher Nordis Olson was the spelling master/pronouncer, with Sheryl Fast, teacher for Sycamore (kindergarten), as well as Oak, the spelling judge. The timer was Karin Stoesz, teacher for Cedar classes (grades 5 and 6) and Rachel Knutson, Acacia teacher (grades 1 and 2), cued the rounds.

Grade-level appropriate words were used for the students in each round.

The highlight of the Bee was the competition in fifth grade. It required 27 total rounds to name an eventual champ.
