MLES students set sail during February’s ‘I Love to Read Month’
February has been recognized for many years as “I Love to Read Month.” At Mountain Lake Public Elementary School (MLES) that tradition continues as students have set sail to “Cruise Into Reading” all month long.
Throughout the month, classes, individuals students or groups of students have had the opportunity to read in a decorated “Aquarium” in one of the study rooms in the elementary library – or “On the Beach,” set-up in the library’s main room.
Each Wednesday during the month featured special dress-up days – Tropical Day (dressing in as many bright colors as possible), Hat Day (wearing visors or hats), Electric Blackout Day (wearing all black and trying to not use electronics outside of school and/or homework) and this week’s Relaxing With Reading Day (wearing comfy clothing). Other activities have been the Stop, Drop and Read times and Bingo games. Also popular have been the Teacher Swap times – when elementary teachers traded classrooms to share a special book of their choosing, as well as Class Swap times – moments when students in one class moved to a different classroom to hear the teacher in that room read a book of their liking.
