Martin Luther-Northrop wins over MLA at home in non-conference tilt
THE MOUNTAIN LAKE Area (MLA) Wolverines Varsity Girls Basketball squad dropped a heartbreaking one-point loss at home to Martin Luther-Northrop on Tuesday, January 26, losing the non-conference tilt, 61-60. The Wolverines were on top by three with only one minute left to go in the game. Their guests were able to take the narrow lead with three seconds left, and held on for the victory. At the close of the first half, MLA had a five-point lead, 32-27, but at the start of the second stanza, the visiting Knights punched their way to a 10-point margin with seven minutes remaining. The Wolverines gained their three-point advantage, but after back-and-forth turnovers, the Knights’ Alex Brummond score the game-winner. The Wolverines’ Signey Stoesz was the leading scorer of the game with 31 points. Bailey Swanson completed eight rebounds, six steals, and three assists. The squad is now 7-7 overall. The squad, coached by Wayne Klassen, makes the trip to Ellsworth on Friday, January 29. After that, they have a break until they face Adrian on the Dragons’ home court on Thursday, February 4. The next day, Friday, February 5, they stay on-the-road to Slayton to take on Murray County Central.
