MLA girls basketball has first loss Tuesday at Slayton

Opening 14-0 run by host Rebels posts tough deficit to overcome

A FIRST QUARTER 14-0 run by the host Murray County Central (MCC) Rebels proved to be a tough deficit to overcome by the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine girls basketball squad in play on Tuesday, December 5. The Rebels won the game, 54 to 36. At the half, Red Rock Conference foe MCC had built a 26-8 cushion. Despite the fact that the Wolverines matched Rebel scoring in the second half, each team with 28 points, MLA could not chip into MCC’s fast start. For the Maroon-and-Silver, Margo Stoesz had a double-double, scoring 15 and pulling down 14 rebounds. Rachel Van Iperen lead MCC in rebounds with 18 – 10 on defense. The Rebels also had 13 steals. The Wolverine record is now 2-1, and will host Red Rock Central (RCC), another conference team, tomorrow (Friday, December 8).
