Over 150 Minnesota FFA members gathered for the State Greenhand Leadership Conference (SGLC) at Deep Portage Conservation Reserve near Hackensack from June 12-16 to develop leadership skills for their communities and home chapters, including five from the Mountain Lake FFA Chapter – Destiny Sybounheuan, Christina Hofmann, Megan McCue, Bileigh Anacker and Emilee Xayanourom.

The goal of State Greenhand Leadership Conference is to give personal mentoring to first-year high school FFA members. These members come from all corners of the state, represent unique sectors of agriculture and have been recognized as top leaders in their schools.

During the conference, students cover an array of topics during sessions that focus mostly on personal development. Goal setting, professional leadership and career exploration are just a few of the topics discovered during this five-day leadership camp.

The State Greenhand Leadership Conference provides a great opportunity for students to not only grow themselves as leaders, but also to make connections with others around the state and develop their own network.

FFA members had the opportunity to connect with different individuals outside of sessions during fun activities such as volleyball, canoeing and hiking. Each night, the state officers shared personal reflections with the campers, and the final day wrapped up camp with a banquet, talent show and dance.

State Greenhand Leadership Conference serves the Minnesota FFA Association by building talented and young individuals. These members often go on to become chapter, region and state leaders within their FFA chapters and communities.

This leadership conference was made possible with financial contributions from the CHS Foundation, Northland Ford Dealers, and Dr. Curtis Youngs as a special project of the Minnesota FFA Foundation.

Over 220 Minnesota FFA members – including three from the Mountain Lake FFA Chapter, Kayla Vonk, David Hall and Sierra Pankratz – gathered for two sessions of the State Leadership Conference for Chapter Leaders (SLCCL) at Deep Portage Conservation Reserve near Hackensack from June 25-27 and June 28-30 to develop leadership skills for their communities and home chapters. Kayla, David and Sierra will be serving in various roles as chapter officers during the 2017-2018 school year.

This elite leadership conference is targeted at FFA members who have gone above and beyond in their local chapters. These FFA members come from all corners of the state, represent unique sectors of agriculture and have been recognized as top leaders in their schools.

The conference is modeled after the FFA’s Program of Activities which gives an example of activity areas the ideal FFA chapter should participate in. While at this conference, members are able to network with other students and share some of these activity ideas from their own FFA chapters.

A chapter’s Program of Activities focuses on growing leaders, building communities and strengthening agriculture. During sessions under each of these three areas, members were able to discover more about the role of healthy lifestyles, recruitment, agriculture literacy, fundraising and community service in their FFA chapters.

his year’s theme was “Expedition BOLD (Building Our Leadership Dynamic).” Together, chapter leaders from across the state were able to build their leadership dynamic by learning more about service, sharing ideas, and creating events to take back and implement in their home chapters and communities.

FFA members had the opportunity to connect with different individuals outside of sessions during fun activities such as volleyball, canoeing and hiking. Each night, the state officers shared reflections with the campers – and the final day wrapped up camp with a mock chapter banquet.

The State Leadership Conference for Chapter Leaders serves the Minnesota FFA Association by building talented and young individuals. These members often end up as leaders in multiple organizations and receive high academic marks during their post-secondary education before beginning very successful careers.

This leadership conference was made possible with financial contributions from the CHS Foundation and Northland Ford Dealers as a special project of the Minnesota FFA Foundation.
