2017 Watonwan County Fair Days

Events run from Thursday through Sunday

The 2017 Watonwan County Fair days will start running full tilt on Thursday, July 20 and continue through Sunday, July 23 at the county fairgrounds in St. James.

General admission to the fair is $3 per day. A Fair Pass for all days is $5 in advance, or $7 at the gate. The gates are open Thursday, July 20, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, July 21, 12 noon to 9 p.m.; Saturday, July 22, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 23, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Exhibit hours are Thursday and Friday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Exhibits include those in the Creative Arts Building, 4-H Projects, 4-H and FFA Livestock and those in the Commercial Building.

J & K Amusements and Carnival will host the Midway. A $35 mega-pass pre-fair special will allow the band-wearer unlimited rides – every day, all day. They may be purchased at Pioneer Bank in St. James and Madelia and at St. James City Hall.

The Fair days daily special events schedule is as follows:

+ Thursday, July 20:

  • Free Day Care Tours, 1:30 p.m., Pre-register at the 4-H office at 507-375-1275.
  • Horse Fun Show, 5 p.m., Horse Arena.
  • Boer Goat Open Class Show, 5 p.m.
  • Bingo Under The Big Tent, 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • 4-H Demonstrations, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., 4-H Exhibit Building.

+ Friday July 21:

  • Bingo Under The Big Tent, 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • John Spitzner Memorial Truck & Tractor Pull, 6 p.m., Grandstand, $5 entrance with those under age 10, free.
  • Ranch Rodeo, 6 p.m., Horse Arena.
  • 4-H Demonstrations, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., 4-H Exhibit Building.
  • “Power House” Band, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Beer Garden.

+ Saturday, July 22:

  • Free Breakfast At The Fair, 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 4-H Food Stand. sponsored by Watonwan County Farm Bureau.
  • Free Tractorcade, 7:30 a.m.
  • Softball Tournament, 8 a.m.
  • Stock Horse Show, 8 a.m., Horse Arena.
  • 4-H & FFA Auction, 9 a.m.
  • 4-H Premier Showmanship & Celebrity Showmanship Dart Tournament – 501 Blind Draw – 11 a.m. registration, $10 per person includes Freeplay, 150% payback
  • 4-H Open House Celebrating 100th Anniversary, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Creative Arts Sweepstakes (winners pictures taken), 2 p.m., Creative Arts Building.
  • Bingo Under The Big Tend, 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Mud Bog Race, 2 p.m., Grandstand.
  • Horse Pull, 6 p.m.
  • Teen Dance, 8 p.m.
  • “Smoke Screen” Band, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Beer Garden.
  • Free Fireworks, 10:15 p.m., Grandstand.

+Sunday, July 23 (Free Admission for Senior Citizens):

  • Extreme Cowboy Race, 11 a.m., Horse Arena.
  • Softball Tournament, 11 a.m., Softball Diamond.
  • Kids Pedal Pull, 11:30 a.m. registration and 12 noon start.
  • Bean Bag Tournament, 11 a.m. registration with 12 noon start, $20 per team, 150% payback.
  • Sugar Loom Farm Family Entertainment (Music and Comedy), 12:30 pm. – plus Farm Family, Century Farm and Outstanding Senior Citizen recognition – Entertainment Building.
  • Pet Show, 1 p.m.
  • Bingo Under the Big Tent, 1 p.m.
  • 4-H Open House Celebrating 100th Anniversary, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • 4-H Parade of Champions and 4-H Graduation, 3 p.m.
