Funeral services for 85-year-old Gladys Tews of Springfield, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, June 27, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield. The church is located at 224 North Mary.

Interment will be in Springfield City Cemetery, located on Brown County Road 24.

Visitation will be Monday, June 26, 2017, at Sturm Funeral Home-Springfield Chapel, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 407 North Jackson. A second visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Gladys Tews passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Gladys Glenn Dora Tews was born on June 8, 1932, in Springfield, the daughter of Clifford and Alice (Brown) Colburn. She was united in marriage to Merlyn Tews on September 27, 1954, at Christ Lutheran Church in Stately Township, Brown County.

Following marriage, the couple farmed near Sanborn, Minnesota for four years before moving to Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Gladys worked at Eventide Home in Mountain Lake as a nurse’s aide for over 30 years. The couple retired and moved to Arizona in 1996, then to Springfield in 2004.

Gladys was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church, a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield, and a former member of the Butterfield VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards and games, bird-watching, crocheting, grocery shopping, cooking and baking, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by children, Rhonda and her husband, Mark Krueger of Springfield, Sandy and her husband, Dale Robideau of Olivia, Minnesota and Randy and his wife, Julia Tews of Discovery Bay, California; daughter-in-law, Joyce Tews of Phoenix, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Andy (Jeanette) Colburn; sisters, Rose (Lyle) Bestland, and Carol (Roger) Kemp and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merlyn in 2014; son, Michael; great-granddaughter, Amelia Carlin and sister, Ellen Richert.
