Funeral services for Fred Coners Sr., 82, of Springfield, Minnesota, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Sturm Funeral Home-Springfield Chapel. The funeral home is located at 407 North Jackson.
Interment will be in Springfield City Cemetery, located on Brown County Road 24.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, March 9, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A second visitation will be at the funeral home the day of the service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Fred Coners Sr. passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Fred Claus Coners Sr. was born on February 26, 1935, the son of Claus and Anna (Rohden) Coners in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956.
On July 16, 1966, Fred was united in marriage to Virginia Jones in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. The couple lived in Cobden, Minnesota until 1994, when they moved into Springfield. Fred was a self-employed contractor for many years.
He was a member of the Springfield American Legion. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, watching movies and spending time with his grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his children, Fred Coners Jr. of Springfield and Terry (Jennifer) Coners of Morton, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson and a sister.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Virginia in 2015 and many siblings.
