Wolverine boys, girls compete in conference track meet

Hunter Dahna is champ in shot put

 

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine Boys and Girls Track and Field teams, under head coach Scott Boelke, competed in the Red Rock Conference Meet yesterday (Thursday, May 18), at the Murray County Central (MCC) Sports Complex in Slayton.

The lone champion for either team was senior Hunter Dahna who topped the field in the shot put, tossing it 42′ 6.”

The Wolverine boys finished third in the team race with 102 points, just ½-point out of second place. Winning the team title was host MCC with 172½ points

In the girls contest, the MLA squad was sixth with 62 points. Southwest Christian-Edgerton claimed the team championship, tallying 191 points.

Assistant coaches are Andrea Brinkman, Jaime Banks and Sarah Tailowright.

Additional Wolverines placed in the top five in their events.

+ Hunter Dahna – first in shot put, 42′ 6.”

+ Reynaldo Capetillo – second in the 200-meter dash (23.88) and the 400-meter dash (52.89).

+ Michael Watkins – third in the discuss, 111′ 9.”

+ Kris Menken – third in the high jump, 5′ 6.”

+ Sam Paulson – third in the triple jump, 36′ 8½.”

+ Tommy Kraemer – fourth in the 800-meter run, 2:23.59.

+ Ruben Fentanez – fourth in the shot put, 40′ 5½.”

+ AJ Vongsy, Menken, Paulson and Capetillo – second in the 4 x 200 relay, 1:40.29.

Wolverine Girls Track and Field Red Rock Conference results

+ Emily Jahnke – second in the 100-meter hurdles, 17.59 and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, 52.34.

+ Jenneel Rodney – second in the short put, 33′ 3½.”

+ Liana Blomgren – third in the 1,600-meter run, 6:01.17.

+ Marta Stoesz – fourth in the high jump, 4′ 6.”

+ Saige Wall – fourth in the shot put, 30′ 9½.”
