Giving MLC students ‘Expo’-sure

Exhibits included both elementary, high school projects

 

 

The elementary and high school students at Mountain Lake Christian (MLC) held their third-annual Student Expo on Thursday, May 11, highlighting Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Art, Photography and Writing projects.

Expo displays included:

+ Sycamore (Pre-Kindergarten) – “Pet Shop.”

+ Sycamore (Kindergarten) – Art Projects, Graphs, Calendars and Photos.

+ Acacia (Grades 1 and 2) – Topographical Maps, Handwriting and Short Stories.

+ Oak (Grades 3 and 4) – State Exhibits and Word Studies.

+ Cedar (Grades 5 and 6) – Immigration Projects.

+ Grades 7-8 – Alphabetical Autobiographies.

+ Grades 7-12 – Writing Samples and Art Projects, including art projects selected for the Cottonwood County High School Student Art Show at the Remick Gallery of the Cottonwood County Historoical Society and the Region IV Fine Arts and Science Festival of Christian Schools.

+ Challenge Groups – Research Posters.

Elementary exhibits were in the gymnasium and individual classrooms, while high school displays of photography and artwork were set up in the lunch room, lounge area and high school hallway. Spanish class work was also arranged for display.

LYDIA CAVANAUGH FROM the Cedar Class has a display board, information and ethnic treat available for her Immigration Project about those who came to North America from “Mother Russia.”

 

THESE CEDAR STUDENTS found out that the potato famine was one reason for some to leave their home in Ireland in search of a new land, emigrating to the United States. Abi Renteria Rojas, left and Lydia Rete, right, researched that “Who,” “What,” Why,” Where” and “How.” Backed by Irish and Celtic background music, the girls were ready to break out into a jig.

 

JACK LEPP HOLDS his painting of a giraffe – along with the first-place ribbon from the Region IV Fine Arts and Science Festival of Christian Schools. Jack is an MLC eighth-grader.

 

MLC JUNIOR CARTER James with his wide array of photography projects – including the black-and-white photo of “Lion Boy,” at right, judged as first-place in the People category at last December’s Digital Photography Competition for grades 9-12 sponsored by the Southwest/West Central (SWWC) Service Cooperative in Marshall. At left is another entry, “Shasta Lake,” in the category of Landscapes. At bottom is a personal photo Carter shot capturing his grandfather standing beside the hearse carrying the casket of his late wife – “Saying goodbye after 60 years of marriage.”

 

RACHEL SAJBAN, A MLC junior with her pencil art work – “Asian Beauty” – which received the People’s Choice Award at the Cottonwood County High School Student Art Show, held throughout the month of April in the Remick Gallery at the Cottonwood County Historical Society in Windom.

 

RECEIVING AN HONORABLE Mention in the high school student art show for her watercolor work, “Wings of Peace,” was MLC senior Danica Dick.
